Waldorf School Hosts Quaker Consensus and Facilitation Training

Bellevue, WA (PRWEB) August 21, 2009 -- Three Cedars Waldorf School in Bellevue will host internationally recognized expert in Quaker Consensus process, Caroline Estes, next week for an Evening Lecture on Monday, August 24, 2009 and a Two-Day Workshop on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 25 and 26, 2009.

Consensus is widely attempted by many groups, businesses, boards of directors, and communities, but without training or skilled facilitation, it can run into snags. Meanwhile, in the Quaker tradition, consensus decision making has been used successfully for more than 350 years.

Consensus decision making builds unity and effectiveness in organizations of all kinds. It enables groups to tap into the best thinking of their members, promoting their fullest commitment. It strengthens communication, encourages teamwork, facilitates effective leadership and provides a climate of mutual respect that lays a firm foundation for setting and achieving goals.

Ms. Estes brings a full picture of the philosophy and values behind consensus and facilitation; the elements of consensus, when and how to use them; techniques for effective facilitation; and the use of consensus to build stronger organizations.

Presenter Caroline Estes has more than 40 years' experience working by consensus and training others in the process. She has worked with a wide variety of government, not-for-profit, education, and business organizations. Caroline's belief is that consensus is an appropriate form of decision making for our age, and that it is often misused. As a founding member of Alpha Farm since 1972, Caroline has been committed to supporting the growth, development, and stability of intentional communities. She is a board member and past president of the Fellowship for

Intentional Community, and often acts as a spokesperson for community ideals and values..

For the two-day workshop, Ms. Estes' Alpha Institute colleague, Lysbeth Borie, joins her from Eugene, OR.

About Three Cedars Waldorf School

Three Cedars Waldorf School is one of over 1,000 Waldorf/Rudolf Steiner schools offering preschool, kindergarten, parent education, and elementary grades 1-8 to students and families on the "Eastside" of the Seattle area. Waldorf schools emphasize the development of the whole human being, including social-emotional development and interpersonal skills. Students are challenged to develop clear thinking, deep feeling, and intrinsic motivation and to enter into their adult lives as effective participants in social inclusion, inclusive group work and society as a whole. All of the adults in Waldorf school communities are asked to model these capacities for the entire student body.

Three Cedars is an independent, nonprofit Waldorf school serving students from Bellevue, Bothell, Duvall, Edmonds, Fall City, Issaquah, Kenmore, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Mill Creek, Newcastle, North Bend, Redmond, Renton, Sammamish, Seattle, Snohomish, Tukwila, and Woodinville. Three Cedars is a candidate member of the Pacific Northwest Association of Independent Schools - PNAIS, Associational of Waldorf Schools of North America - AWSNA, and the Washington Federation of Independent Schools - WFIS.
